Renovation of an old shopping centre and office tower into a new federal multi-tenant office building. Renovations to this facility includes replacement of all mechanical systems.
The Alvin Hamilton Building upgrades feature custom air-handling units with heat recovery, a high-efficient heating plant that, and a water-cooled chiller. A water-side economizer utilizing a heat exchanger and a cooling tower was used to provide chilled water during spring, fall and winter season.
The first version of LEED Canada was followed, and the building was certified to LEED Silver. Plumbing systems incorporated the use of low flow plumbing fixtures and waterless urinals. Heating systems utilized multiple condensing boilers and variable primary only piping system with variable speed drives on the pumps. Chilled water system included a water-cooled chiller, primary-secondary pumping with variable flow on the secondary loop utilizing variable speed drives on the pumps.
